Four Christmases

This will be Ali's 4th Christmas with us in America. We hosted her when she was 8, she was adopted by 9 and is now 11. Is it wrong that I still look at her as the goobery 8 year old? But now, she is turning into this amazing tweenaged beauty. Thank goodness for the braces, or she'd look 18!
Last night the girls tried on outfits for Christmas Eve. Poor Ali. Too tall and too skinny for her own good. Miss Bolshoy is wearing a dress. Star is wearing a dress. Of COURSE Ali wanted a dress too. But everything that is long enough for Ali is too baggy. Anything that fits around her is too short. She's going with a skirt and sweater. We went to every.single.store. on this island that sells children's clothing and tried everything that could even remotely pass for "Christmas attire". She did not care for anything we tried. At our last stop, The Ga.p, we found a sweater 50% off and paired it with a silver skirt from her closet (SCORE!)... but it wasn't without much frustrations on her part. "I eat more than a grown man, why am I so skinny!?!?!", said the stretched out 5'2" rubberband. Oh, poor baby. LOL It was hard to be sympathetic. I guess the grass is always greener.

I've gotten around this problem with my niece by putting leggings on her when a dress is just a little too short (though she's a little younger than Ali, so it may not work in her sizes). It gives a nice little hipster look that makes her look way more fashionable than me. :)

She is beautiful! You are right, she does look older. She could be a model.

Oh my how she has grown! From just looking at the photos, she both seems younger than 8 in the first one and older than 11 in the second one.

Dresses can be tricky! Wouldn't the smallest women's size work? Or she's skinnier than that? Just thinking that women's sizes may have longer skirts even in skinny sizes.

She will be wearing leggings on Christmas Eve, this was just a quick snap taken while trying clothes on. Leggings is about our only saving grace these days. She is SO tall and so skinny. She wears a 14slim, and those are thisclose to being too short on her, yet she has a size 8-10 waist. Her legs are longer than mine (and I'm 5'7"!!!!!) Her limbs are just impossibly long! Oy.
A woman's small would be gigantic on her around her body, but lengthwise, would be great. Oh how she wants a dress like her sisters, but the only dresses that seem to work are knit dresses from Land.s En.d etc. and thats not the style shes looking for for Christmas. AHHHHHHHH!

Deb, she probably needs women Petite. I know that Anne Taylor LOFT has Petite sizes. Might work. Check it out.

Oh yes, I understand that a women's small would be huge on her, given her measurements... She's really skinny! Definitely a future model :-) But I think a Northern European size 32 would fit her (French size 34). (Sorry, I have no idea what that would be in American sizes, XXS maybe?). I just checked measurements and sizes online and compared the waist for size 8-10 year old with the tiniest women's. Maybe you could find something online?

I love that skirt too! It's still too big for Miss Bolshoy and by the time she fits into it she'll probably say its too babyish for her. Maybe our next youngest will grow into it if all goes well :)
